Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Test for Determining the Rheological Properties of Asphalt Binder Using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR)
Also Known As:
The AASHTO T 315-20 standard provides a method for determining the rheological properties of asphalt binder using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). The standard focuses on the determination of the dynamic shear modulus and phase angle of the asphalt binder when subjected to dynamic shear using parallel plate test geometry. It is specifically designed for asphalt binders with dynamic shear modulus values ranging from 100 Pa to 10 MPa.
The test method is conducted within a temperature range of 6 to 88°C and at an angular frequency of 10 rad/s. It is primarily used for specification testing to determine the linear viscoelastic properties of asphalt binders. However, it should be noted that this method does not provide a comprehensive characterization of the viscoelastic properties of the binder.
The AASHTO T 315-20 standard is applicable to both unaged asphalt binders and those that have been aged in accordance with the procedures outlined in T 240 and R 28. Additionally, the presence of particulate material in the asphalt binder should be limited to particles with longest dimensions below 250 micrometers.
