Standard ENStandard Practice for Match Curing of Concrete Test Specimens
Also Known As:
AASHTO R 72-16 (2020) is a standard that provides guidelines for the match curing of concrete test specimens. Match curing refers to the practice of curing the concrete specimens at the same temperature as that measured in a concrete member. The concrete sample used for making the specimens should be taken from the same member where the temperature is being measured.
This standard is applicable for both air chamber and insulated jacket (Surecure) systems, as well as for molded cylinders with nominal dimensions of 100 by 200 mm (4 by 8 in.) or 150 by 300 mm (6 by 12 in.). However, users need to be cautious of Type I and Type II errors in temperature control for different curing systems. Type I error refers to a situation where there is a loss of temperature control over only a portion of the match-cure duration, followed by regaining control. Type II error represents a constant level of temperature control error throughout the entire match-cure duration.
It is worth noting that this standard was previously designated as a provisional standard called PP 54.
