Standard ENStandard Specification for Performance-Graded Asphalt Binder Using Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR) Test
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 332-21 standard is a specification that outlines the requirements for performance-graded asphalt binders using the multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) test. This test is used to determine the physical properties and performance characteristics of asphalt binders for use in pavement design and construction.
The standard defines different grading designations based on the average seven-day maximum pavement design temperature, minimum pavement design temperature, and traffic loading conditions. These designations include "S" for standard traffic loading, "H" for high traffic loading, "V" for very high traffic loading, and "E" for extremely high traffic loading.
The specification also includes a reference to T 350, which is used to measure the non-recoverable creep compliance of the asphalt binder, referred to as Jnr. Additionally, it notes that for asphalt cements graded by viscosity at 60°C, the requirements outlined in M 226 should be followed. Similarly, for performance-graded asphalt binder, the standards outlined in M 320 should be followed.
Finally, the specifying agency may also require compliance with R 92 to ensure that the asphalt binder exhibits elastic response. This indicates that the specified binder must possess the necessary properties to withstand the stresses and strains typically experienced in pavement applications.
