Standard ENStandard Specification for Glass Cullet Use for Soil-Aggregate Base Course
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 318-02 (2019) standard sets out the requirements for the use of processed glass cullet as a granular road base material. The standard specifies that the cullet should be properly processed and mixed with natural or crushed aggregate before being hauled, spread, and compacted on a prepared grade to meet appropriate density standards.
The purpose of using glass cullet in the road base is to provide stability and load support. However, it is important to note that the material described in this specification is not intended for use in treated or stabilized pavement layers. Instead, it is specifically designed for use in road or highway bases. It should be used in conjunction with M 147 or with the relevant requirements of the local jurisdiction specifying the properties of the natural or crushed aggregate used in the base course.
Furthermore, it is important to consider that this specification is only applicable for base courses where surfacing will be placed over the base. If there is no surfacing planned, the use of glass cullet as a base material should not be considered under this standard.
