Standard ENStandard Method of Test for Bulk Density ("Unit Weight") and Voids in Aggregate
Also Known As:
The AASHTO T 19M/T 19-14 (2018) standard is a method of testing the bulk density ("unit weight") and voids in aggregate. This standard provides a procedure for determining the weight per unit volume or density of aggregate, as well as calculating the voids between particles in fine, coarse, or mixed aggregates. The test method is applicable to aggregates with a maximum size not exceeding 125 mm (5 in.).
It should be noted that the term "unit weight" is used to describe the property determined by this test method, although it more accurately represents mass per unit volume or density. The standard allows for the use of either inch-pound or metric units, depending on the requirements of the specification being used. However, there are exceptions, such as sieve sizes and nominal aggregate size, where the metric values are considered the standard. It is important to keep in mind that the values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents, and should not be combined or compared directly.
