Standard ENStandard Specification for Porous Concrete Pipe
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 176M/M 176-17 standard is a specification for porous nonreinforced concrete pipe used in underdrains. It is similar to the ASTM C 654M-05a and C 654-05a standards, with a few differences.
One difference is that the absorption test in this specification is limited to the 5-hour boil method. This test measures the amount of water absorbed by the concrete pipe, which can affect its performance.
Another difference is that the manufacturer is not allowed to supply inch-pound sized pipe when the order is placed in SI units. This ensures consistency in measurement units and simplifies the ordering process.
Lastly, the use of fibers in Section 6.5 of the specification is optional and at the discretion of the owner. Fibers can be added to the concrete mix to enhance its strength and durability.
