Standard EN SampleDesign Specification for Unbonded Post-Tensioned Precast Concrete Special Moment Frames Satisfying ACI 374.1 (ACI 550.3M-13) and Commentary
Also Known As:
The ACI 550.3M-13 standard provides requirements for the design of special hybrid moment frames that consist of precast concrete beams connected to concrete columns using post-tensioning. These frames are designed to exhibit minimal damage in the beam-column regions and have negligible permanent displacements after a major earthquake.
It is important to note that these hybrid moment frames do not meet the prescriptive requirements specified in Chapter 21 of ACI 318M-11 for monolithic frames. According to this standard, the acceptance of hybrid moment frames requires experimental evidence and analysis to demonstrate that they possess strength and toughness equal to or greater than comparable monolithic reinforced concrete frames that satisfy the prescriptive requirements.
The ACI 550.3M-13 standard provides guidance for licensed design professionals to use analysis to demonstrate that hybrid moment frames meet the required strength and toughness criteria. It is a revision of the ACI T1.2 Standard.
To ensure clarity, references to sections of ACI 318M are made without including the word "Section," while references to sections of the ACI 550.3M-13 standard include the word "Section." Similarly, references to sections of ASCE/SEI 7 include the word "Section" in accordance with the format of that standard.
