Standard Requirements for Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Concrete Buildings (ACI 369.1-17) and Commentary

The ACI 369.1-17 standard provides criteria for the retrofitting and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete buildings based on current research on the seismic performance of such structures. It serves as a resource document for modifications to Chapter 10 of ASCE 41-17, which is the American Society of Civil Engineers' standard for seismic evaluation and retrofitting of existing buildings.

The intent of ACI 369.1-17 is to provide updated guidelines for retrofitting concrete buildings, similar to how FEMA's NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions have served as source documents for the International Building Code. It should be used in conjunction with Chapters 1 through 7 of ASCE 41-17, which provide general requirements, performance objectives, seismic hazards, evaluation and retrofit procedures, analysis procedures, and geotechnical engineering provisions.

It's important to note that ACI 369.1-17 does not cover repair techniques for earthquake-damaged concrete components. Design professionals are referred to FEMA 306, FEMA 307, and FEMA 308 for information on evaluating and repairing damaged concrete wall components. Additionally, this standard currently does not include provisions for concrete-encased steel composite components, but future versions may address this and other omitted concrete components and systems.
