Standard EN SampleElectric cables - Reeling and trailing for mining and general use (other than underground coal mining)
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 2802:2000 (R2020) is a standard that specifies requirements for multicore elastomer insulated and sheathed flexible reeling and trailing cables used in surface mining, underground mining (excluding coal mining), and general applications. These cables are designed to provide electrical supply at voltages ranging from 1.1/1.1 kV up to and including 33/33 kV.
The standard defines two classes of cables – Class 1 and Class 2. Class 1 cables are insulated with high-grade ethylene propylene rubber (XR-EP-90), which allows for a reduced radial thickness compared to Class 2 cables of the same rating. The cable sheath for Class 1 cables is made of extra-heavy-duty chlorosulphonated polyethylene, chlorinated polyethylene, or polychloroprene.
On the other hand, Class 2 cables are manufactured using standard R-EP-90 insulation and have a sheath made of HD-90-CSP, HD-90-CPE, or HD-85-PCP materials. These cables have a greater insulation radial thickness, making them more robust.
The standard acknowledges that other types of cables may be used and allows for approval of new types by regulatory authorities as they are developed. Any new types and sizes will eventually be included in the standard. The standard also serves as the basis for requirements for the construction of other sizes within the range of materials covered by the standard.
