Concrete Structures
Also Known As:
AS 3600:2018 is a standard that outlines the minimum requirements for the design and construction of concrete building structures and members that contain reinforcing steel or tendons, or both. It also covers the minimum requirements for plain concrete pedestals and footings.
The standard specifies that its principles and criteria can be applied to concrete structures other than buildings and to members and materials outside the scope defined in Clause 1.1.2. It emphasizes the importance of having a suitably experienced and competent person carry out the design of structures or members covered by the standard or supervise the design process.
Additionally, the standard highlights that for the design of maritime structures, AS 4997 should be referred to for guidance. It also acknowledges that if alternative materials and methods are to be used, they need to be considered within the framework of a Performance Solution to demonstrate compliance with the relevant requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC) and approved by the relevant building authority.
It is important to note that AS 3600:2018 is not intended to apply to the design of mass concrete structures.
