AS/NZS 2891.9.2:2014 is a standard that provides guidelines for determining the bulk density of compacted asphalt using the presaturation method. The standard specifies that this method is suitable for dense graded asphalt with a water absorption by volume of no more than 2.0%, or stone mastic asphalt with a water absorption by volume of no more than 1.0%. It should be noted that this test method may not yield accurate results for thin asphalt samples, especially when the asphalt thickness is less than 2.5 times the nominal size.
