Standard EN SampleStandard Calculation Methods for Structural Fire Protection
Also Known As:
The ASCE 29-05 standard provides guidelines for determining the fire resistance of structural members and barriers in different types of buildings and construction classifications. These fire resistance requirements are based on the testing results from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test designation E119, which measures the ability of building construction and materials to withstand fire for a specified period of time.
As an alternative to relying solely on tested assemblies, this standard offers calculation methods to determine the fire resistance of various structural elements, including structural steel, plain concrete, reinforced concrete, timber and wood, concrete masonry, and clay masonry. These calculation methods are intended to provide architects, engineers, building officials, and others with a way to determine the equivalent fire resistance that would have been achieved through the ASTM E119 standard fire test.
