The ASTM C928/C928M-20a standard is a specification that covers packaged, dry cementitious materials for rapid repairs to hardened hydraulic-cement concrete pavements and structures. It excludes materials that contain organic compounds like bitumens, epoxy resins, and polymers as the principal binder.
The standard distinguishes between packaged, dry concrete material and packaged, dry mortar material based on the retained aggregate percentage. The former contains aggregate where at least 5% by mass of the total mixture is retained on a 9.5mm sieve, while the latter contains aggregate where less than 5% is retained on the same sieve.
The specification allows for the inclusion of aqueous solutions, aqueous emulsions, or dispersions as components of the packaged materials, which may replace some or all of the mixing water as specified by the manufacturer.
Aggregates must be included as a component of the packaged materials, and the manufacturer may recommend the addition of specific amounts and types of additional aggregates at the job site for certain purposes. However, such reformulated products are not within the scope of this specification.
Various test methods are specified in the standard to determine properties such as compressive strength, length change, scaling resistance, and slant shear bond strength. These tests ensure that the packaged, dry cementitious materials meet the required performance criteria for concrete repairs.
