Standard ENStandard Test Method for Dynamic Modulus of Asphalt Mixtures
Also Known As:
ASTM D3497-79 (R2003) is a standard test method that provides procedures for preparing and testing asphalt mixtures to determine their dynamic modulus values. The test method covers a wide range of both temperature and loading frequency. The minimum recommended test series involves testing at three different temperatures (41, 77, and 104°F or 5, 25, and 40°C) and three different loading frequencies (1, 4, and 16 Hz) for each temperature.
The purpose of this test is to evaluate the dynamic stiffness or modulus of asphalt mixtures under varying conditions. The dynamic modulus is a measure of the rigidity or resistance to deformation of the asphalt mixture, and it is an important material property for the design and analysis of pavement structures. The test method is applicable to asphalt paving mixtures that are similar to mixes 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, and 7A as defined by Specification D 3515.
