These samples can be used for classification testing, determination of compaction characteristics, or any other standard that requires bulk samples. For obtaining intact samples, thin-walled sample tubes in conjunction with fluid rotary drilling or hollow-stem augers may be considered.

It is important to note that this standard does not cover geoenvironmental site characteristics and installation of monitoring wells, which are discussed in Guide D5784. All observed and calculated values in accordance with this standard should conform to the guidelines for significant digits and rounding established in Practice D6026, unless superseded by this method.
