Standard EN SampleStandard Guide for Calculating Movement and Other Effects When Establishing Sealant Joint Width
Also Known As:
ASTM C1472-16 (R2022) is a standard guide that provides information and procedures for calculating movement and other effects in order to establish the appropriate width of a sealant joint. The guide focuses on factors such as movement, construction tolerances, and other effects that can impact the performance of sealant joints. It primarily applies to single- and multi-component, cold-applied joint sealants, as well as precured sealant extrusions when used with properly prepared joint openings and substrate surfaces.
This standard is applicable to various types of sealant joints, including those in walls, horizontal slabs, paving systems, and sloped building surfaces. However, it does not cover the selection and properties of joint sealants, nor their use and installation, which are addressed in another ASTM standard (Guide C1193).
It is important to note that this guide does not apply to the design of joints sealed with aerosol foam sealants. For structural sealant glazing systems, Guide C1401 should be used in conjunction with this guide. Additionally, for protective glazing systems designed to resist blast and other effects, Guide C1564 should be used in combination with this guide.
Finally, as of the publication of this standard, there are no comparable standards published by other organizations that address the same topic.
