Standard ENStandard Test Method for Measuring the Longitudinal Profile of Traveled Surfaces with an Accelerometer-Established Inertial Profiling Reference
Also Known As:
The ASTM E950/E950M-09 (R2018) standard provides a method for measuring and recording the profile of vehicular-traveled surfaces.
The standard utilizes an instrumented vehicle with an accelerometer-established inertial reference to acquire profile data of the traveled surface. By measuring the distance between the reference plane and the surface along with the acceleration of the inertial platform, changes in elevation of the surface can be detected.
The profile data obtained can be processed to simulate the outputs of other devices, such as road meters, various straightedge devices, profilographs, pavers, and grinders. This can be done in real time or as a post-process. The standard also allows for the recording of raw data or profile data for later analysis using more complex data processing procedures.
The measurements obtained from this standard represent a filtered profile measured from a moving reference plane. The accuracy and specification requirements depend on the desired class. Proper filtering allows users to obtain suitable wavelength information for the intended data processing.
