Standard ENStandard Test Method for Measuring Voids in Roofing and Waterproofing Membranes
Also Known As:
The ASTM D5076/D5076M-13 (R2019) Standard Test Method for Measuring Voids in Roofing and Waterproofing Membranes is a laboratory test method that is designed for the measurement, classification, and counting of voids in roofing and waterproofing systems. It can be used on both multi-ply systems and one-ply systems.
In multi-ply systems, this test method is used to identify and quantify the voids between felt plies, insulation layers, and between the membrane and insulation layers. These voids can serve as potential locations for the formation of blisters.
In one-ply systems, the test method is used to count and measure the voids in the adhesive present in laps, as well as the adhesive between the membrane and the insulation. Voids in the adhesive can lead to leakage, while voids in the adhesive or laps can also contribute to blister formation.
The standard includes two procedures for measuring the void area in the adhesive between roofing and waterproofing materials. Both procedures require a count of the number of voids.
