Standard ENStandard Test Method for Measuring Pavement Roughness Using a Profilograph
Also Known As:
The ASTM E1274-18 standard describes a method for measuring the roughness of new or rehabilitated pavements. It utilizes an articulated multi-wheeled profilograph that is at least 23 ft (7 m) long, as shown in Figure 1.
The test method involves moving the profilograph longitudinally over the pavement at a speed of less than 3 mph (5 km/hr). The surface record obtained during this movement is then analyzed to determine the rate of roughness and identify bumps that exceed a specified threshold.
It is important to note that the results obtained using this test method may vary between different designs of profilographs, and may not necessarily agree with roughness measurements obtained using other types of profilographs or roughness-measuring equipment.
