Standard ENStandard Practice for Sealing of Sewers Using Chemical Grouting
Also Known As:
The ASTM F2304-10 (R2016)e1 standard provides guidelines and procedures for the inspection, testing, and repair of sewer pipe joints. The goal of this standard is to reduce infiltration and exfiltration in sewer systems while utilizing environmentally safe grout and minimizing traffic disruption.
The standard recommends using the packer method for sealing sewer pipe joints. This involves conducting television inspection and joint testing to identify defective joints and assess sewer line conditions. Once identified, chemical grouts are injected under pressure into the soils surrounding the pipe joint to create a seal.
It is important to note that this practice should not be used for pipe conditions such as longitudinally cracked pipe, severely corroded pipe, structurally unsound pipe, flattened or out-of-round pipe. Additionally, in areas with high groundwater pressure, it is recommended to consult equipment manufacturers.
Worker safety is also emphasized in this standard. It suggests providing training on the hazards associated with the equipment used in the grouting process and ensuring that proper safety measures are taken when handling, mixing, and transporting chemical grouts.
