Standard ENStandard Test Method for Determining Tensile Adhesion Properties of Structural Sealants
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1135-19 standard provides a laboratory procedure for quantitatively measuring the tensile adhesion properties of structural sealants. The purpose of this test method is to assess the adhesive strength of sealants used to structurally adhere glass or other glazing or panel materials to a metal framing system. These sealants are specifically designed to provide a structural link between the glazing or panel and the framing system.
The test method outlined in this standard is conducted under one prescribed environmental condition, but it acknowledges that different environmental conditions and duration cycles can be employed as needed. The values stated in the standard are in SI (metric) units and the inch-pound values given in parentheses are provided for informational purposes.
It should be noted that there are two ISO standards, ISO 8339 and ISO 8340, which provide similar information as ASTM C1135. These ISO standards can be considered as additional references for determining the tensile adhesion properties of structural sealants.
