Standard ENStandard Specification for Corrugated Steel Manhole Assemblies
Also Known As:
ASTM A1105-17 is a standard specification that outlines the requirements for the manufacture and purchase of products used for the assembly and construction of circular reinforced corrugated steel manholes in sewer and water works. This specification specifically covers products that are not typically used for carrying sanitary or industrial wastes. The steel sheet used in the fabrication of these manhole structures must have a protective metallic coating, which can be zinc (galvanizing), aluminum, 55% aluminum-zinc alloy, zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal alloy, or a polymer pre-coating.
The standard is divided into two parts. Part I consists of 11 sections that present general requirements and requirements that are common to each corrugated steel product. Part II presents specific requirements for each type of manhole product, including grade rings, manhole structures, base sections, and steps and ladders.
The specification allows for the use of steel sheets with zinc, aluminized, or polymeric coating for the fabrication of manhole structures. Structures made from sheets with composite coatings are always provided with an approved coating. It's important to note that polymeric-coated sheets may be used for sanitary sewers and industrial applications.
However, it's important to note that this specification is strictly a manufacturing and purchase specification. It does not include requirements for backfill or the relationship between field load conditions. These aspects must be addressed separately according to other relevant standards or guidelines.
