ASTM D6392-12 (R2018) is a standard test method that is used to determine the integrity of nonreinforced geomembrane seams produced using thermo-fusion methods. Geomembranes are barrier materials used to restrict liquid migration in soil and rock. The purpose of this test method is to evaluate the quality of geomembrane seams as it has been observed that these seams can separate in the field under certain conditions.

This test method involves destructive quality control and quality assurance tests, specifically peel and shear tests, to assess the quality of nonbituminous bonded seams. It is important to note that these test procedures are intended for nonreinforced geomembranes only.

The standard also describes the different thermal field seaming techniques used to construct geomembrane seams. These techniques include hot air, hot wedge (or knife), and extrusion methods. Additionally, the standard specifies the types of materials that are covered, such as very low-density polyethylene (VLDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), very flexible polyethylene (VFPE), linear medium-density polyethylene (LMDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and flexible polypropylene (fPP).
