Standard Practice for Sampling and Analysis of Modified Bitumen Roof Systems

SKU137296516 Published by ASTM International, formerly American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM Publication Date2011 Pages CountPages2

The standard ASTM D7636/D7636M-11 (R2019) is a practice for sampling and analysis of modified bitumen roof systems. This practice is specifically designed for the removal of specimens from existing modified bitumen roof membranes for visual assessment and evaluation of abnormalities in the membrane. The roof membrane consists of one or more plies/sheet materials, with at least one ply being a modified bitumen sheet. The installation methods for these roof systems can include hot asphalt, heat welding, cold adhesive, or self-adhesive.

The standard is not intended for use on roofs that are still under construction. It is specifically focused on the evaluation of existing modified bitumen roof systems. The roof membranes may be composed of various materials, such as SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene), APP (attactic polypropylene), or other polymer modified bitumen sheet materials. Additionally, it can include exposed modified bitumen sheet materials that act as a cap sheet covering multiple layers of built-up roofing (BUR) plies. The practice also encompasses the evaluation of any adhesive or bitumen component used in the installation of the roof system.
