Standard ENStandard Test Method for Flow of Grout for Preplaced-Aggregate Concrete (Flow Cone Method)
Also Known As:
The ASTM C939/C939M-16a standard is a test method used to determine the flow (fluidity) of various fluid grout mixtures. This test method is applicable in both laboratory and field settings. It involves measuring the time it takes for a specified volume of fluid hydraulic cement grout to flow through a standardized flow cone.
This test method is primarily used for preplaced-aggregate (PA) concrete, but it can also be applied to other fluid grouts. It is designed to be used with neat grout (without any additional materials) as well as grouts that contain fine aggregate passing through a 2.36-mm (No. 8) sieve.
The test method is specifically intended for grouts with an efflux time of 35 seconds or less. If the efflux time exceeds 35 seconds, the flowability is better determined using the flow table method described in Test Method C109/C109M, which involves measuring the flow of grout using 5 drops in 3 seconds.
Note: The sieve size is identified according to its standard designation in Specification E11, with the alternative designation given in parentheses for information purposes only.
