Standard ENStandard Test Method for Quantitative Determination of Phases in Portland Cement Clinker by Microscopical Point-Count Procedure
Also Known As:
ASTM C1356-07 (R2020) standard provides a reliable and relatively simple method for measuring the phase abundance of portland cement clinker. This test method uses microscopical point counting to directly measure the clinker phase composition, as opposed to using calculated Bogue phase composition.
The test method assumes that the operator is qualified to use a reflected light microscope and the necessary accessories, can properly prepare polished sections and use etchants, and can accurately identify the constituent phases.
This standard can be used as part of a quality control program in cement manufacturing and as a troubleshooting tool. It can also help in correlating cement properties and performance in concrete, to the extent that these properties and performance are influenced by phase composition.
