Standard ENStandard Test Method for Infiltration Rate of In Place Pervious Concrete
Also Known As:
ASTM C1701/C1701M-17a is a standard test method that is used to determine the field water infiltration rate of in-place pervious concrete. The test is conducted to identify any reduction in infiltration rate over time, indicating the need for remediation. It is important to note that the infiltration rate obtained from this test is only valid for the specific location where the test is performed, and multiple locations must be tested to determine the infiltration rate of the entire pervious pavement.
The field infiltration rate is typically determined by the design engineer, based on the design precipitation event. However, it is important to mention that this test method does not measure the influence on the in-place infiltration rate due to sealing of voids near the bottom of the pervious concrete slab. For determining the sealing of voids near the bottom of the slab, visual inspection of concrete cores is considered the best approach.
The standard also provides additional information in the form of notes, which are meant to provide explanatory material but are not considered as requirements of the standard. It is worth noting that there is another test method, ASTM C1781/C1781M, that is suitable for permeable unit pavement systems and yields comparable results to ASTM C1701/C1701M.
