Standard ENStandard Specification for Coarse Aggregate for Asphalt Paving Mixtures
Also Known As:
The ASTM D692/D692M-20 standard outlines the requirements for coarse aggregates used in bituminous paving mixtures. This specification covers various types of aggregates, including crushed stone, crushed hydraulic-cement concrete, crushed blast-furnace slag, crushed gravel, crushed expanded shale, crushed expanded clay, and crushed expanded slate.
The coarse aggregates must be hard, strong, and durable, and should not have any coherent coatings. Samples of the aggregates are to be taken for testing to ensure they meet the specified physical requirements. These requirements include bulk density, composition for both conventional and open graded friction course mixtures, polishing characteristics, soundness, and degradation behavior.
It is important to note that this standard references notes and footnotes that provide additional explanatory information. However, these notes and footnotes, excluding those in tables and figures, are not considered as requirements of the standard. Additionally, it should be noted that other slags with a proven satisfactory service record may be used, in accordance with Note 1 of the standard.
