Standard ENStandard Practice for Sampling and Analysis of Existing Built-Up Roof Systems
Also Known As:
ASTM D2829/D2829M-07 (R2019)e1 is a standard practice for sampling and analysis of existing built-up roof systems. This practice is intended for the investigation of existing roofs and is not meant for new construction inspection. The purpose of this practice is to guide the removal of test specimens from existing built-up roofing systems in the field and determine the approximate quantities of the components of those specimens.
The components that can be determined using this practice include insulation components (if part of the roof membrane system), plies of roofing felt, interply layers of bituminous material, top coating, and surfacing. The practice specifies that it is applicable to both 914-mm [36-in.] and 1000-mm [39 3/8-in.] wide felt rolls.
It is important to note that this practice primarily focuses on sampling and analysis, rather than providing detailed instructions for the construction or installation of built-up roof systems. For newly constructed roofs, a different practice, ASTM D3617/D3617M, should be used.
