Standard ENStandard Specification for External Sealing Bands for Concrete Pipe, Manholes, and Precast Box Sections
Also Known As:
ASTM C877-21 is a standard specification that provides guidelines for three types of external sealing bands used in conjunction with concrete pipe, manholes, and precast box sections.
The first type of sealing band, known as Type I, is composed of rubber, mastic, and a protective film. The second type, Type II, consists of a plastic film with reinforced, rubberized, asphalt, mastic coating along with steel straps. The third type, Type III, is made up of a backing band, a continuous butyl adhesive coating, and an optional release element.
Each type of sealing band must meet specified physical property limits through appropriate testing methods. The standard also includes references to various related ASTM specifications for concrete pipe and terminology.
It's important to note that this specification covers the design and material of the sealing bands but does not address factors such as infiltration or exfiltration flow in an installed pipeline. These considerations are covered by other specifications.
