Standard ENStandard Specification for Rapid Hardening Hydraulic Cement
Also Known As:
ASTM C1600/C1600M-19 is a standard specification that outlines the performance requirements for rapid hardening hydraulic cements. This specification does not impose any restrictions on the composition of the cement or its constituents. The cement is classified into four types based on specific requirements for very early compressive strength development.
The four types of rapid hardening cement defined by this standard are as follows: Type URH (ultra rapid hardening) for applications that require high early strength, Type VRH (very rapid hardening) for applications that demand very high early strength, Type MRH (medium rapid hardening) for applications that require mid-range hardening with high early strength, and Type GRH (general rapid hardening) for applications where the higher strength properties of Type VRH or Type MRH cement are not necessary.
The cement of the specified type must conform to all applicable standard physical requirements for compressive strength and drying shrinkage. Various testing methods are used to evaluate the properties of the cement, including autoclave expansion, time of setting, compressive strength, drying shrinkage of mortar, heat of hydration, surface resistance, alkali silica resistivity, and expansion in water.
It is important to note that the standard includes explanatory notes and footnotes that provide additional information but are not considered requirements of the standard itself.
