Standard Specification for Asphalt Roll Roofing (Organic Felt)

The ASTM D6380/D6380M-03 (R2018) standard specifies the requirements for asphalt roll roofing in sheet form. The roofing is composed of asphalt-saturated organic felt coated on both sides with asphalt. There are three classes and three types of asphalt roll roofing covered in this specification.
Class M and WS rolls are surfaced on the weather (exposed) side with mineral granules, except for any selvage. Class S rolls, on the other hand, are surfaced with powdered talc, mica, or other fine mineral matter to prevent sticking.
The type classifications (Types II, III, and IV) are grouped based on the minimum net mass per unit area of the roofing. The standard also outlines various physical property requirements that the roofing must adhere to, such as breaking strength, water permeance and vapor transmission, width, selvage, area, and moisture.
