Standard ENStandard Specification for Glass Mat Gypsum Panels
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1658/C1658M-19e1 standard covers the characteristics and requirements for different types of glass mat gypsum panels. These panels are designed for use in various applications such as walls, ceilings, partitions, multilayer systems, and shaftwall assemblies.
The standard distinguishes three main types of glass mat gypsum panels:
1. Glass Mat Interior Gypsum Panel: Intended for use on walls, ceilings, or partitions and provides a suitable surface for decoration.
2. Glass Mat Coreboard Gypsum Panel and Glass Mat Shaftliner Gypsum Panel: Designed to be used as a base in multilayer systems, gypsum studs or cores in semisolid or solid gypsum board partitions, or in shaftwall assemblies.
3. Glass Mat Water-Resistant Gypsum Panel: Primarily used as a base for the application of ceramic or plastic tile on walls or ceilings. It can also be used for decoration.
The standard specifies that glass mat gypsum panels should consist of a noncombustible core, with gypsum partially or completely embedded within the core. The panels must meet requirements for flexural strength, humidified deflection, null pull resistance, water resistance, and surface water absorption.
The specifications applicable to all glass mat gypsum panels are covered in Sections 1-4 and 8-10 of the standard. Additional specifications specific to each type of panel are provided in Sections 5, 6, and 7 for glass mat interior gypsum panel, glass mat coreboard gypsum panel, and glass mat water-resistant gypsum panel, respectively.
