Standard ENStandard Specification for Processing Additions for Use in the Manufacture of Hydraulic Cements
Also Known As:
ASTM C465-22 is a standard specification that outlines the criteria and tests to be used for determining whether a processing addition meets the requirements for use in the manufacture of hydraulic cements. This specification applies to both organic and inorganic processing additions and is applicable to various types of hydraulic cements, including Portland cement, Portland blast-furnace slag cement, Portland pozzolan cement, and slag cement.
The specification requires that tests be conducted on cements prepared from different clinkers to evaluate the processing addition. The clinkers should represent different types of cements, such as Type I, Type II, and Type III. The objective is to compare cements containing the processing addition to identical cements without the addition or with a different processing addition. The compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete made with the cement containing the processing addition should be compared to those obtained with the control cement at similar ages.
Various tests are specified to determine the properties of the materials, including chemical analysis of the cement, compound composition, fineness of cement, normal consistency, time of setting, autoclave expansion, air content of mortar, compressive strength of mortar, and drying shrinkage of mortar. These tests ensure that the processing addition meets the necessary requirements for use in hydraulic cements.
