The ASTM RR:C09-1005 standard involves the testing of air entraining admixtures for their specific gravity. The objective of this test is to determine the precision of the test method C233. In this study, ten different laboratories were involved in the testing process. The laboratories conducted tests on four different air entraining admixtures to evaluate their specific gravity.
Out of the ten laboratories, only one laboratory did not submit data in triplicate, while the others ensured triplicate measurements for better accuracy and reliability. Two laboratories used a pycnometer and eight laboratories used a hydrometer for the determinations of specific gravity. The use of both instruments might have been aimed at comparing their accuracy and precision in determining the specific gravity of air entraining admixtures.
This standard test aims to establish a precision statement for the C233 test method, which will provide valuable information about the consistency and reliability of the specific gravity measurements carried out by different laboratories. The results of this study will contribute to the improvement of the test method and provide guidelines for future testing of air-entraining admixtures for concrete.
