Standard ENStandard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Horizontal Concrete Surfaces
Also Known As:
The ASTM C779/C779M-19 standard is a test method that provides three procedures for determining the abrasion resistance of horizontal concrete surfaces. These procedures are used to evaluate the effects of concrete, concrete materials, and curing or finishing procedures on abrasion resistance. They can also be used for quality acceptance of products and surfaces exposed to wear. It is important to note that these procedures do not provide a quantitative measurement of the length of service that can be expected from a specific surface.
The three procedures described in the standard are Procedure A (revolving-disk machine), Procedure B (dressing-wheel machine), and Procedure C (ball-bearing machine). Each procedure uses different methods and forces to simulate abrasion conditions. The equipment used in these procedures is portable, making them suitable for both laboratory and field testing.
It should be noted that there are other procedures available for measuring the abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces, such as Test Methods C944/C944M and C418. The choice of procedure should consider the closest representation of the service conditions being tested. The standard also includes diagrams of the three machines specified in the procedures.
