The ASTM C1142-95 (R2013) standard specification covers extended life mortar for use in the construction of non-reinforced or reinforced unit masonry. It is a property standard that outlines the requirements for four types of mortar: RM, RS, RN, and RO. These types of mortar can be produced by using one of the four mortar formulations with masonry aggregate: portland cement, portland cement-lime, masonry cement, or masonry cement with portland cements. The materials used in the mortar are listed in Section 5 of the standard. Appendix X1 of the standard provides a rationale statement and commentary.
