Standard ENStandard Test Method for Passing Ability of Self-Consolidating Concrete by J-Ring
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1621/C1621M-17 standard provides a test method for determining the passing ability of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) using the J-Ring in combination with a mold. This test method is applicable for both laboratory use in comparing different concrete mixtures and for field use as a quality control test.
The difference between the slump flow and J-Ring flow of the SCC is used as an indication of its passing ability. A difference less than 25 mm [1 in.] suggests good passing ability, while a difference greater than 50 mm [2 in.] indicates poor passing ability. It is important to note that the orientation of the mold for the J-Ring test and the slump flow test without the J-Ring should be the same.
However, it should be noted that this test method is specifically limited to self-consolidating concrete with a nominal maximum size of aggregate of up to 25 mm [1 in.].
The standard also includes explanatory notes and footnotes that provide additional information, although these notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) are not considered as requirements of the standard.
