ASTM C1186-22 is a standard specification for flat fiber-cement sheets used for exterior applications such as claddings, facades, curtain walls, and soffits. The standard covers both untextured and surface textured sheets, and it does not apply to asbestos-cement sheets, gypsum-based boards, particle boards, non-asbestos fiber-cement interior substrate sheets, fiber-mat reinforced non-asbestos cement interior substrate sheets, or cement-bonded particleboards.

The flat sheets are divided into two types, Type A and Type B, based on their intended application. Type A sheets are suitable for exterior applications exposed to direct sunlight, rain, or snow, while Type B sheets are intended for exterior applications not subjected to these elements. The standard specifies four grades of sheets based on their flexural strengths.

The standard outlines the mechanical and physical requirements for the fiber-cement sheets, including flexural strength, density, dimensions (length, width, thickness, squareness, and edge straightness), finish, and color.
