The ASTM D1670/D1670M-11 (R2018) standard provides a method for determining the extent of cracking or pitting in bituminous films caused by weathering. This standard emphasizes that failure due to cracking is more accurately determined electrically rather than visually. The test results depend not only on the characteristics of the bituminous material and the extent of weathering but also on factors such as film thickness and the amount and type of mineral filler present. To ensure the validity of the test results, it is strongly recommended to include a control material of known weathering characteristics that is exposed at the same time as the test material.
