The ASTM D2493/D2493M-16 standard is a practice for the viscosity-temperature chart for asphalt binders. This standard provides a convenient method for estimating the viscosity of asphalt binders at any given temperature within a specific range. It can also be used to determine the temperature at which a desired viscosity is achieved.
The viscosity-temperature chart is applicable to asphalt binders as well as asphalts recovered from laboratory aging tests or extracted from pavements. It is based on a viscosity-temperature relationship that can be plotted using any appropriate units. The standard provides charts for both conventional and SI units for ease of use.
The range of the chart is suitable for roofing asphalts and asphalt binders with viscosities exceeding 0.01 Pa.S (10 centipoise).
