Standard ENStandard Test Method for Residue by Evaporation of Emulsified Asphalt
Also Known As:
ASTM D6934-08 (R2016) is a standard test method that provides a quantitative determination of residue in emulsified asphalts. The emulsified asphalts are composed of a semisolid or liquid asphaltic base, water, and an emulsifying agent. The purpose of the test is to indicate the compositional characteristics of emulsified asphalt.
The test method involves evaporation of the emulsified asphalt to determine the amount of residue left behind. The evaporation residue can then be subjected to other characterization tests to assess its properties. It is important to note that the residue obtained through evaporation may show lower penetration and ductility compared to the residue obtained through the distillation test method (ASTM D6997). However, material should not be rejected solely based on evaporation test results and should be rerun using the distillation test method if it fails to meet the specified requirements for residue properties.
