Standard ENStandard Specification for Mortar, Refractory (High-Temperature, Air-Setting)
Also Known As:
ASTM F1097-17 is a standard specification that provides guidelines for the composition and use of dry and wet air-setting refractory mortar. This mortar is specifically designed for laying and bonding refractory bricks in various types of furnaces, including ship boiler furnaces, stationary boiler furnaces, bright annealing furnaces, controlled atmosphere furnaces, and furnaces heated by electric elements.
The standard defines two types of refractory mortar: Type 1 and Type 2. The mortar is composed of finely ground heat-resistant clays, minerals, or a combination of clays and minerals. It can be in either a dry or wet condition, depending on the application.
To ensure the quality and performance of the mortar, several tests are required. These tests include a fineness test to determine the particle size distribution, a heat soak test to assess the ability of the mortar to withstand high temperatures, and a bonding strength test to evaluate the bonding capability of the mortar.
Complying with the requirements outlined in ASTM F1097-17 ensures that the refractory mortar meets the necessary standards for use in high-temperature applications and provides effective bonding between refractory bricks.
