Standard ENStandard Specification for Mixing Rooms, Moist Cabinets, Moist Rooms, and Water Storage Tanks Used in the Testing of Hydraulic Cements and Concretes
Also Known As:
The ASTM C511-19 standard specifies the requirements for mixing rooms, moist cabinets, moist rooms, and water storage tanks used in the testing of hydraulic cements and concretes. The standard covers the equipment and conditions necessary for the preparation and storage of paste, mortar, and concrete specimens.
The mixing rooms are required to have a temperature recorder and a reference temperature measuring device to ensure accurate and consistent temperatures during the mixing process. The air and mixing water temperatures, as well as the relative humidity, must be maintained at specific values to meet the standard requirements.
The moist cabinets and rooms are constructed with durable materials and tight-fitting doors or windows to create a controlled environment for specimen storage. The air in these cabinets or rooms must be saturated with moisture, and the temperature can be controlled through heating, cooling, or both. Fog sprays, water sprays, or curtains of water on the inner walls are used to maintain the specified relative humidity.
Water storage tanks, used for storing water for specimen preparation, should be made of non-corroding materials and have provisions for automatic control of water temperature. The water in the tanks must be saturated with calcium hydroxide to prevent leaching.
