Standard ENStandard Test Method for Freeze-thaw and De-icing Salt Durability of Solid Concrete Interlocking Paving Units
Also Known As:
ASTM C1645-21 is a standard test method that evaluates the freeze-thaw and de-icing salt durability of solid concrete interlocking paving units. The purpose of this standard is to determine the effects of freezing and thawing on these units, which must conform to the dimensional requirements specified in ASTM Specification C936/C936M. However, other types of segmental concrete paving units that do not meet these dimensional requirements can also be tested using this method.
It is important to note that the results obtained from this test method do not provide a quantitative measure of the length of service that concrete paving units conforming to the dimensional requirements of Specification C936/C936M can offer.
In this test method, the resistance of the interlocking concrete paving units to freezing and thawing is evaluated by immersing them in a test solution. The test solution can be tap water or a 3% saline solution, depending on the intended use of the units in actual service.
