Standard ENStandard Test Method for Low-Temperature Flexibility and Tenacity of One-Part, Elastomeric, Solvent-Release Type Sealants
Also Known As:
The ASTM C711-14 standard is used to determine the low-temperature flexibility and tenacity of a specific type of sealant. This test method is not meant to replicate actual usage conditions, but rather to provide an indication of the elastomeric properties or flexibility of a building joint sealant at low temperatures.
The standard helps differentiate between elastomer-based sealants and those based on nonelastic binders that can harden or become brittle over time. It can also identify sealants that have poor flexibility due to being overextended or containing a low level of elastomeric binder. Additionally, the test method can detect sealants with binders that will become brittle at low temperatures.
This standard involves subjecting the sealants to cyclic high- and low-temperature aging and evaluating their flexibility and tenacity. The subcommittee responsible for this standard is not aware of any similar ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard.
