Standard ENStandard Specification for Processing Additions for Use in the Manufacture of Hydraulic Cements
Also Known As:
The ASTM C465-19 standard provides criteria and tests for determining whether a processing addition meets the requirements for use in cement production. The standard applies to both organic and inorganic processing additions used in hydraulic cements as specified in other ASTM specifications.
The standard outlines the testing procedures to evaluate the processing additions. Tests are conducted on cements prepared from different types of clinkers to represent various cement types. The properties of the cement containing the processing addition are compared to otherwise identical cements without the addition or with a different processing addition. Tests include chemical analysis, compound composition, fineness, normal consistency, time of setting, autoclave expansion, air content, compressive strength, and drying shrinkage.
The specification also references the former ASTM specifications that apply to organic processing additions, including Portland cement, Portland Blast-Furnace Slag cement, Portland Pozzolan cement, and Slag cement. These materials are considered to meet the requirements of this specification.
