Standard EN SamplePrestressed Concrete Pressure Pipe, Steel-Cylinder Type
Also Known As:
AWWA C301-14 is a standard that outlines the manufacturing process for prestressed concrete pressure pipes with a steel cylinder and wire reinforcement. It covers pipe diameters ranging from 16 in. to 144 in., and there are two types of pipes described: lined-cylinder pipes and embedded-cylinder pipes.
Lined-cylinder pipes have a core consisting of a steel cylinder lined with concrete. It is then wire-wrapped and coated with premixed cement mortar. On the other hand, embedded-cylinder pipes have a core composed of a steel cylinder encased in concrete. It is also wire-wrapped and coated with premixed cement mortar.
This edition of the standard includes several important revisions. The minimum yield strength requirement for the steel used in manufacturing the cylinders has increased. The conformance standard for the maximum carbon equivalency of steel bar reinforcement has also changed. The optional conformance grade for flat steel bars has been removed, and there is now a requirement for test reports on the physical properties of the rubber compound used in gaskets.
Additionally, there are new tolerances for the minimum cover requirement of mortar coating over wire, requirements for testing the concrete strength of the pipe core, and revised provisions for the placement of prestressing wire reinforcement and multiple layers of wire. Lastly, there have been extensive modifications to the requirements for linings and coatings for fittings.
