Standard EN SampleResistibility Requirements to Overvoltages and Overcurrents Due to Lightning for Equipment Having Telecommunication Ports
Also Known As:
The BS EN 50468:2009 standard specifies the resistibility requirements for equipment with telecommunication ports to overvoltages and overcurrents caused by lightning. The standard covers telecommunication equipment installed at customer premises and addresses surges resulting from both direct and indirect lightning on the telecommunication line plant. However, it does not cover other types of overvoltages or overcurrents such as induction from electric power systems, earth potential rise due to power faults, or direct contacts between telecommunication lines and low voltage power lines.
This standard is designed for use by both network operators and equipment manufacturers. It applies to equipment that has telecommunication ports connected to external conductors located outside the customer's building. The tests specified in the standard are type tests, and while they can be applied to a complete system, they are also suitable for individual equipment during development and design stages.
