Standard EN SampleFire Resistance and Smoke Control Tests for Door, Shutter and Openable Window Assemblies and Elements of Building Hardware. Fire Resistance Characterisation Test for Elements of Building Hardware
Also Known As:
The BS EN 1634-2:2008 standard is a method for characterizing the impact of building hardware on the fire performance of hinged or pivoted vertically installed fire door assemblies or openable window assemblies. This standard applies to building hardware for use on hinged and pivoted doors and openable windows, including framed glazed doors and windows, but excluding glass doors. It does not include tests for durability or other performance characteristics, which should be evaluated according to the specific product standard or EN 14600.
The method outlined in this standard is specifically suitable for characterizing building hardware used on non-metallic door or window assemblies made of cellulosic materials or mineral boards faced with cellulosic materials, as well as conventional steel doors up to 1.5 mm thick. The size of the assemblies tested can be up to that specified in the field of direct application for the specific door leaf construction. However, this method is not suitable for evaluating building hardware used on glass or glazed doors with decorative perimeter framing.
It is important to note that this standard does not constitute a fire resistance test for the entire door leaf, window, frame, intumescent seal, or anything other than the specific item of building hardware being tested. The resulting field of direct application can only be used for leaf and frame constructions that have successfully been tested to the EN 1634-1 standard.
